In partnership with Sorcit (formerly Midland Job Link), the ETI team has been working to source region wide industry partnerships to support retail training in schools. This was initially to support the YAT funded SIR20212 – Certificate II in Retail.
Last year, we had Priceline (PPS stores) come on board taking on nine students across four stores. Students undertook retail training one day per week and had one day of Workplace Learning to support and supplement their training program.
To best support the partnership, we are seeking EOIs from schools interested in delivering SIR20212 – Certificate II in Retail.
If no-one in the school has their industry qualification, there are still funds available under YAT Capacity Building. 2013 is the last year these funds will be available so take advantage of it!
By providing the students with an industry placement, the training can be contextualised to suit the industry partner environment. Depending on the timetables of the students, this can be delivered as:
- two day program (one day training, one day in the workplace)
- one day training, block release placement
Provided sufficient evidence is collected on the job, students can get credit towards their units of competency. If the school/trainer has time to complete on the job assessments, students can be signed off from their work placements.
The industry partnership significantly increases the flexibility of the delivery and opportunities for assessment. This may help you in delivering the course within a school year.
If you are interested in delivering Retail to your students or to a partnership of schools, please contact a member of the ETI team to discuss further.
